BES First Graders' Literacy Lessons Use Classic Games as Tools
Learning words in first grade at Bethlehem Elementary School sure is fun! Students in Rebecca Lerner and Michelle Tscheppe's classes played the game Headbanz to practice various structured literacy sounds. One student gave clues about the word on their partner's headbands for them to write the word and read it out loud. Students also used some of the words they've already learned to spell in a terrific game of Tic Tac Toe. Using these familiar and interactive games helps first grade students with phonemic awareness and letter-sound connections.
